buzzing about Arizona Muse - Sense clothing

http://www.senseclothing.com/index.asp

A beautiful 17 year old walked into our Sense Clothing showroom in 2006 for a fitting. Her name was Zoe, but today everyone now knows her as Arizona Muse. What first struck me was her maturity and striking beauty. But how will she photograph? We had a photo shoot scheduled with Peter Ogilvie in Oct and Zoe was one of our models. I have to say Santa Fe doesn’t have a huge pool of models to call on, but we have been so lucky to come across some of the most beautiful and interesting women to model our clothing. Zoe is no exception. The very first shot on that day would be a photo that we still continue to use today. (see image at left) Arizona quickly became the face of Sense even before signing with Next. With each season to the next she started to show her comfort with being in front of the lens. It’s great to see someone grow and become successful so quickly. You can imagine how excited we were for her when we heard she had wrapped up a BEBE campaign. That same year she became pregnant and left New York and moved to Tucson AZ. Fast forward a quick year later and we would be working together again launching our Spring/Summer 2010 collection. We also got to meet the new man in her life (her son) Nikko, who by the way, was a perfect gentlemen at the photo shoot. Zoe had changed. Her long blonde hair was gone and was a more natural darker shade. More than anything I noticed how much more relaxed she seemed especially when Nikko was near. Within the year she was walking all the major runways.

I speak for all of us here at Sense that we are beyond blown away by how far she’s come and certainly how hard she’s worked. It’s no small task to be a mother, fashion icon and the most talked about model of the year.

ps. Zoe – We’re still counting on that Sense tattoo ;)

Can I get a Testimony?

We love to hear from you! Here are a few of our favorites:

Sense clothing is the next best thing to being naked! I love the feel of the fabrics they use and the fabulous flattering fit. It takes travel/spa type clothing to whole new level. KG

-----------------------------------

I literally live in sense I have a background in fashion and Now as a Mom “in the burbs” I can wear my “sweats” and still be ME! My favorite pieces are black(of course) My go –to basics are the tunic pant ;Capri for Summer. Otherwise ;the long tunic pant all year(especially for travel)I love the tanks and I pair them with the little tie shrug or a hoodie

Thank you, LW 2010

-----------------------------------

Sense clothing is undoubtedly made from the most comfortable, flattering and easy to maintain fabric I have ever worn. Thank you! Kathryn Santa Fe, NM

---------------------------------------

I have been giving oral testimonies for Sense for years and so am happy to finally write one. I bought my first pair of black tunic pants five years ago. As I still wear them, I can swear that they are as black, as soft, and fit as well as the Sense pants I have bought in recent years. They don't fade! Really! I have worn them through years of pilates, tai chi, gym workouts, lounging, work, travel to exotic and less than exotic destinations and have always felt appropriate, stylish, comfortable, and, yes, admired. The long sleeved shirts are favorites for layering. Simple. Elegant. Silky. Thank you. Jane

-------------------------------------

I have been a customer from the early days of opening Sense and they are simply the best fitting, the best fabric and the best styling of any comfort, workout, casual clothes on the market. I still have items from years ago that have the same shape and fabrication as new. LOVE SENSE! Marilyn

----------------------------------

Dear Robin and Sense Staff,

I bought my first piece of sense clothing on a visit to Santa Fe in 2008, I fell in love with that surplus top. I have since moved to Santa Fe and Sense has become a big part of my wardrobe, both for my yoga practice and my street clothes. The best part of being a resident of Santa Fe is that I get to participate in the great sale opportunities and that allows me to be even more of a fan. After this tremendous warehouse sale I can count 10 Sense pieces happily waiting to be thrown together in various combinations.

Thanks for the Sense movement! LS

-------------------------------------

I have been wearing Sense practically since Robin began. Every year I invest in Sense pieces. The line is phenomenally comfortable, fluid, made of the yummiest fabrics, and perfect to dress up or down. I live in the skirted pants year round. Thank you for manufacturing a fine product that wears timelessly and withstands repeated laundering.

Lauren Rose, MPT

Sense is my favorite store. I have been shopping at Sense since the year it opened, when I saw an article in the Santa Fe New Mexican about Sense. I love the fabrics! After several years, they still look as good as new. I love the colors and the way new styles intermingle with old ones. Yesterday, I bought five pieces, all of which will go great with pieces I already own. Thank you Robin and Sense for being there. Ellen F.

-------------------------------

I am happy to write a testimonial about the Sense clothing I've purchased and loved wearing over the years! To start with, four years ago I bought a pair of black modal pants with the little skirt on top, and I've worn them at least 2 to 3 times per week for the entire four years. I sleep in them, I wear them to the gym, to yoga, out to dinner, and to meet clients. The styling is so elegant and timeless, they go anywhere, and I always get compliments and questions about where to find them! I machine wash and dry them every time I wear them, and they've held up incredibly! They haven't frayed, or shown wear at all. The color is still as black as when I first bought them. The same goes for the black tie coat I bought at the same time. I am very picky about the way my clothes fit, and I love Sense's styling and cuts. They fit my body perfectly, whether I'm in great shape or carrying a few extra pounds. They don't bind in the underarms or cling unflatteringly around the waist. The latest purchases I made are my new favorites, and I know they will last for years. My 20 year old daughter and I had a great time trying things on with all the women in the store, which was a lovely, communal way to spend an afternoon, and we had lots of help from the wonderful staff finding what we were looking for. I think all of Robin's creations look great on women of any age!

Here's to another six years! Gretchen Overman

"I absolutely LOVE these clothes. They are elegant, chic and above all unbelievably comfortable. I wear the tank tops constantly. Thank you Sense Clothing for allowing me to be gorgeous and relaxed at the same time-every woman's dream."

Melissa Weiss Steele

---------------------------

I bought one piece of clothing from Sense thinking that I would only wear it lounging around my house!

How silly of me! I kept coming back to add more garments because it did not take me long to realize that

I can wear this clothing EVERYWHERE!. I finally came to my "senses". I love to treat my sisters and girlfriends

to this wonderful clothing and so appreciate the savings that are passed on with your fabulous sales. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

To Whom It May Concern:

Thought I no longer live in Santa Fe, I love the clothing I've gotten at sense. Your pants and skirts are among the most comfortable and flattering I own. I wish I could wear them to work!

Got Memorial Day Plans?

Memorial Day Weekend Plans?

Filed under: Uncategorized — senseclothing @ 6:12 pm Edit This

Memorial Day is coming up…The closest shout-out to summer we can think of. So what are your plans? We have ideas for Memorial Day travel and Memorial Day at home.

TRAVEL

Unless you already have plans to go visit family, we suggest you check out this great website. Travelmuse.com is my go-to destination for travel ideas. My personal favorite application is their “get inspired” section. Put in your budget needs, travel preferences, desired activity and desired flight time and they provide you with inspirations. If I want to go wine tasting on a $500 a person budget on an 8 hour or less flight I can choose up to 4 locations in Canada, New York and more (the budget includes airfare and hotel accommodations.) The possibilities are endless! And even if you can’t square away vacation time for Memorial Day weekend, you can generate ideas for the future. Check it out at travelmuse.com

Don’t forget to stock up on your Sense Essentials https://wearsense.com/index.php/sense-essentials.html before departure—Sense Clothing will be your best travel companion and will keep you looking chic on your vacation.

Staying at home? Host a lunch or dinner party for your friends and family…

Real Simple’s website provided us with some creative ideas (and some ideas of our own) for a low key party with suggestions like:

Skip the table cloth and use brown paper. It’s easy for clean-up and looks clean and classic.

Don’t stress about having proper glasses for drinks—many of your guests may opt for a non-alcoholic beverage anyway, besides, there is something fun about drinking wine from a mug!

If you don’t have the perfect play list, Pandora.com is a great solution.

Grilling? Kabobs are a fresh alternative to burgers and buns and can be packed with veggies. Ask your guests to bring their favorite marinade and make them together.

Float tea-candles in bowls of water—they look beautiful but you don’t have to worry about them and you won’t spend a dime on candle holders.

When the sun goes down and you are ready to move inside, break out the board games! Get your yoga gear on for a classic game of twister or for showing off your smarts try Apples to Apples, Cranium or Scattegories. We think these games are an absolute blast for everyone (even those who hate board games).

You couldn’t be more comfortable entertaining in our Tennis Dress or Flirt Skirt —easy clothes that look great and feel fantastic.

Mothering

It's May - Cherry blossoms decorate the city. Halters have hit the stores and Mother's day is right around the corner. Spring represents life, love and nourishment.. the perfect season to honor the mother figure. What to do on Mother's day? Here are way's to celebrate mom in a fun, creative and fresh way. Being that this is a Sense Blog, we will also give you some exciting new fashion ideas to go along with your Mother's day weekend.

Power to the Plants:
Have a mom with a green thumb? Try surprising her with a trip to the nursery and offer your help in making the plants feel right at home in her front yard. You'll spend the same amount as you would on dinner, but the experience is much more enriching for you, your family and the earth.
Wear our beachcomber paired with the u-bra cami in clover

Soak and Stretch:
Take her to a spa or yoga class. This may seem like a splurge, but great deals are out there. Many yoga or pilates studios offer a free trial class, or a two for one deal. You can also check out the spas with communal women's tub. The soak still does the job and you can relax knowing you haven't blown your budget.
Wear Sense essential fold over yoga pant with our active cami in sangria

Counter Culture:
Spend the afternoon wine tasting and looking at the latest art installments. Most wineries have a small tasting fee, but the variety of wine is worth the price. Check your local listings for art shows that pair up with wine tastings, or skip the drinks and explore new galleries and museums in your area.
Wear the a barcelona shift or our ruched dress with leggings

Picnic for mom:
Make mom her favorite lunch only using locally produced or organic ingredients. Half the fun will be finding the fixin's (think farmers market, community gardens, local health-food stores) and then eating together on a blanket in her favorite park. Ask mom for her favorite recipe and then update it or try something new altogether.
Wear our new long prairie skirt and halter

Got some other great Mother's day ideas? Send them to us ! If you can't spend the day with mom, I'm sure she would appreciate something from our online store. Check it out @ wearsense.com

Mentoring in our Community

Alexandra and Katelyn 2010 Program

Monte Del Sol Charter School has a unique program for students to get a jump start on the career of their choice. We have been involved with the “Mentorship Program” for the last 4 years. The young ladies that we mentor are between the ages of 13 to 17. They design their own collections, storyboards and linesheets for presentation to their teachers and peers at the end of the year. Here is a little information about the Mentorship Program:

Mentorship

At Monte del Sol we believe and observe that all learning is relational. When students experience and understand how academic work connects to their surroundings and to real people and activities, these subjects come alive.

We use our local community as context whenever possible and we encourage and provide connection in varied and meaningful ways: for example, students have collected oral histories from Spanish-speaking elders at La Residencia; they have helped teachers in science classes at elementary schools; many participate in our growing sustainability and outdoor education programs and all are given the opportunity to learn and connect through the school’s flagship MENTORSHIP program.

To create a successful mentorship we begin by asking students about their interests and dreams and passions and then find an adult in the community who shares their passion and who is willing to become a mentor to that young person for the school year. Then we bring the student and mentor together to pursue a project of mutual design and to delve deeply into the subject. Students meet a minimum of two hours a week with their mentors between September and May. Many choose to meet for longer and some students stay with the same mentor over several school years.

The results of this program have been stunning. Students have directed plays, produced films, composed songs, designed furniture, built bicycles, written books, explored quantum mechanics, studied polymer chemistry, designed lasers, tended bee hives, designed clothes, trained assistance dogs, broken horses, and much, much more. Each week, we have about 150 students participating in mentorships with skilled and generous mentors around Santa Fe.

In most cases, students claim to have learned a huge amount in their mentorship projects and in most cases mentors claim the same. That is clearly in evidence at the annual Mentor Appreciation Evening each February and especially during the three-day Mentorship Festival each May where students showcase their work in a local auditorium to their peers, their parents, mentors and special guests.

Monte del Sol incorporates mentorship into the academic curriculum and students are required to get a minimum of two high school credits (one per year) for completing and passing their mentorship. In addition to the weekly sessions with their mentors, each student is asked to reflect on their learning through a final portfolio of work that is a combination of a 20-page written essay, a photographic or video/power point presentaton and/or peformance reflecting what they learned, how they learned it, and how it was different from classroom learning. After each presentation or performance the student also participates in a lively question and answer session with the judges, their peers and others in the audience.

The school requires a minimum of one year of mentorship in middle school and two years of mentorship during high school. We recommend four high school years of mentorship and many of our 11th and 12th graders do a mentorship for additional elective credit as well as to continue learning from a trusted mentor in their field of interest. We often hear from graduates who continue to follow the passion nurtured during their mentorship at Monte del Sol and who stay in touch with their mentor. One entire Monte del Sol family became avid beekeepers inspired by their son’s beekeeping mentorship.

Sense welcomes Yoga Springs Studio

Sense Clothing is now being sold at Yoga Springs Studio in Yellow Springs Ohio. Just in time as they celebrate their sixth anniversary!

Yoga Springs Studio was founded in March 2004 by Monica and Robert Hasek. At the time, there were many yoga teaches in the Village of Yellow Springs, but no dedicated yoga space. Monica, director, invited the teachers to join together to teach under one roof, in a one-room studio. Today, Yoga Springs Studio has expanded in their original location to include two beautiful classrooms with hardwood floors, natural light, a lounge for students to gather for tea and conversation and a boutique stocked with yoga essentials.

They currently have twelve teachers and collaborate with regional and national teachers to host workshops. They are a Registered Yoga School with the National Yoga Alliance. In addition to weekly classes and workshops, they offer a 200 hour teacher training program. Yoga Springs Studio is gathering space for movement, community and connection.

Yoga Springs Studio is located in downtown Yellow Springs, Ohio accessible to shops, restaurants and recreation. Although located in a small village the studio has an urban vibe. As you walk up the stairs, you are greeted by the same soothing sound of water trickling in the original Yellow Spring, located just a few blocks away in Glen Helen. The sound and sight of the elegant slate fountain sets the tone for your retreat from everyday life. The exposed brick walls and the re-finished original wood floors tell the history of the century old building. Modern design elements, simple furnishings and alluring green and purple colors invite you to relax and enjoy this hidden gem in the heart of Yellow Springs.

For more information and class schedules please check out their website http://yogasprings.com/
